The Moment the Pattern Finally Breaks

The Moment the Pattern Finally Breaks

People ask me all the time: "How do I know when the pattern has actually shifted?"

It's a good question. Because awareness alone doesn't do it. Understanding doesn't do it. Reading every relationship book on Audible doesn't do it.

I've worked with women who can explain their attachment style, their family of origin, their core wounds in five languages, and still find themselves picking the same unavailable partner at 42 that they picked at 22.

Why? Because insight lives in the mind. The pattern lives in the body.

And the body doesn't care what you understand. It cares what it feels.

If you've been with me through this series, you know the loop: abandonment fear drives overgiving, overgiving creates the disappearing, disappearing triggers engulfment fear, engulfment fear creates pulling away, pulling away triggers abandonment fear again, and round it goes.

A whole decade. A whole life, sometimes.

So how do you know when the loop has actually broken?

Here's what I look for. Not theoretical, real, in the women I've worked with:

Before the loop breaks:

A man pulls away. Her chest tightens. Her stomach drops. The abandonment fear floods in. She picks up the phone to send the message she knows she shouldn't send.

Or: he gets closer than feels safe. Wants to know her more deeply. Wants more of her time. The engulfment fear floods in. She suddenly remembers she "needs space." She finds something wrong with him. She starts engineering distance.

After the loop breaks:

A man pulls away. She notices it. She feels a flicker, old programming saying do something, fix this, chase him, and then it passes. She puts the phone down. She makes dinner. She sleeps fine.

He gets closer. She notices the old urge to pull back. She feels the engulfment fear knock on the door. And she lets it go. She stays. She breathes. She lets him in.

That's the shift. Not "she stopped caring." She stopped being run by the loop.

The signals still come through. But they're no longer in charge.

Andrea told me:

"Now when I look at the men I used to be obsessed with, I genuinely don't understand what I saw. It's not that I'm forcing myself not to be attracted. I'm just… not. The chemistry is gone."

That's not willpower. That's a nervous system that finally got the update.

The man hasn't changed. The loop has.

This is what becomes available when both fears finally release their grip:

• You stop chasing what doesn't choose you.

• You stop walking past what does.

• You stop confusing intensity with intimacy.

• You stop confusing distance with depth.

• You stop over giving to keep love.

• You stop pulling away to keep yourself.

• You start being able to receive, really receive, the love that's already trying to reach you.

You become available. To yourself first. To real love second.

In that order. Always in that order.

I want you to hear this clearly, because I know how exhausted you might be from running the loop:

This is not a lifetime of work. This is not "go to therapy for ten years and maybe something shifts."

The subconscious is more responsive than most people realize. When you work with it directly, not just with the mind, but with the body, the heart, the nervous system, patterns that have been running for decades can release in months. Sometimes weeks.

I've watched it happen too many times to count. The loop that ran a 30-year relationship history dissolving in a few weeks of focused work. The fear of engulfment a woman thought was her personality turning out to be a 4-year-old's decision she's been honoring her whole life.

The work is doable. The shift is real. And the freedom on the other side is more than worth it.

Not sure how much of this pattern is affecting you?
